Yale College student inspires Sport Ambassadors
Yale College sports student, Vikki Courtman, has been ranked outstanding by the Youth Sport Trust for her work as a Young Ambassador at their recent Sport Wales conference in Cardiff.
Keen to get more people involved in sporting activities, Vikki, who is studying BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport at Yale College, became a “Sports Gold Ambassador” through Wrexham County Borough Council. Yale College Principal, Dhesi was delighted to receive a letter from the Youth Sport Trust thanking Yale College “for shaping such a talented young person” and complimenting Vikki for her “enthusiasm, confidence and communication skills” at their recent recruitment event in Cardiff.
“Vikki’s infectious passion for sport is brilliant,” says Dhesi, Principal at Yale College, “as excitement for the 2012 Olympics gains pace, we want to give her message our full support.”
Vikki is now going onto become a “Platinum” ambassador and is one of just ten participants from the whole of Wales on a Steering Group to plan how the “Gold Ambassadors” programme will continue to roll out in Wales to increase participation in sporting activities.
Bethan Hughes, Active Young People Manager, Wrexham Sports Development says “Vikki is an integral member of our Young Ambassador programme here in Wrexham. It is important to have such excellent role models to inspire the younger generation to become physically active in order to lead a healthier lifestyle”.
Aspiring to be a Physical Education teacher, Vikki, 17, became a “5×60 Leader” through the AYP Officer based at her school and confessed her own involvement in sport was minimal until Year 9 when she discovered a whole range of sports opportunities including her beloved water polo which led her to join the Young Ambassador movement.
