A level Further Maths for Double Maths

AS/A Level 3 Dimensional Design

The AS (Advanced Subsidiary) can be taken as a discrete one year qualification, or as the first half of a full 2 year A Level (A2), in Three Dimensional Design. Both courses are intensive, challenging, but potentially rewarding and enjoyable. The courses offer a valuable experience for people with a keen interest and aptitude in this subject area.

AS/A Level Art Craft & Design

The AS (Advanced Subsidiary) can be taken as a discrete one year qualification, or as the first half of a full 2-year A Level (A2) in Art, Craft and Design. Both courses are intensive, challenging, but potentially rewarding and enjoyable. The courses offer a valuable experience for people with a keen interest and aptitude in this subject area.

AS/A Level Biology

Location : Grove Park

Biology is a rigorous academic science. The course looks at all aspects of biology, starting with basic chemistry before going on to consider increasing levels of complexity, (such as cells, tissues, organs, organ systems) of organisms and ecosystems. Other aspects of the course include transport systems, nutrition, genetics and evolution.

AS/A Level Business Studies

Location : Grove Park

This course runs for 4.5 hours a week and gives students a nationally recognised qualification in Business Studies. The course gives a general introduction to business and looks at the relationship between business and the real world. Successful completion of year one will give students the AS qualification and, if they choose to carry on in the second year, to complete A2 level, the AS and A2 grades are combined to award the full A level qualification. It should be noted that it is not a requirement that the full A level is taken. The AS qualification is valuable in its own right.

AS/A Level Chemistry

Chemistry is concerned with the study of materials, their properties, reactions and uses. Practical work and the theories that arise from experimentation form an integral part of such study.

AS/A Level Classical Civilisation - Greek & Roman Studies

Classical Civilisation is the study of the mythology, history, society, art and literature of the Ancient World. The aim of the course is to allow students to gain as broad an understanding as possible of the culture of the ancient Greeks and Romans.

AS/A Level Computing

The new course specification has been designed to prepare students who wish to go on to higher education courses or employment where a knowledge of computing would be beneficial. The course will also allow students to demonstrate their knowledge of the fundamental principles of the subject.

AS/A Level Drama & Theatre Studies

Location : Grove Park

AS and A2 Level Drama and Theatre Studies courses are designed to encourage a contextual, textual and practical understanding of theatre. Length of course: A2 level is, generally, a two year course. AS Level is a one year course and contributes 50% towards the A Level course.

AS/A Level Economics

Economics seek to explain the "allocation of scarce resources". During the course students will be expected to learn a number of economic issues that affect each of us every day.

AS/A Level Electronics

AS and A2 level Electronics are two separate one year full time courses, each made up of two theory modules and a practical project. The work carried out in the two modules of the AS course is designed to prepare the student for the project work and the A2 course. Successful completion of the two years of study leads to a full A level award. Tuition is timetabled throughout the week and will consist of theory sessions, practical work and group work. Students are expected to spend extra time on private study.

AS/A Level English Language

This course is for students who wish to expand their theoretical and grammatical knowledge of English and who would like to develop their writing skills.

AS/A Level English Language & Literature

If you enjoy reading and would also like to learn more about language, including spoken language, then this subject may be for you. English Language and Literature students study literature in the form of novels, plays and poetry. As a student on the course you will analyse texts, building on the knowledge of literary devices you have already come across at school, but also acquire a new, linguistic vocabulary which you will able to use in showing how meaning is conveyed. You will also have the opportunity to write creatively yourself, in a variety of genres, and to comment on the techniques you have used.

AS/A Level English Literature

AS/A Level Film Studies

This course is for students who wish to expand and deepen their understanding of film. The course will provide learners with the opportunity to understand film theoretically through the exploration of a wide range of film texts fully reflecting the multi-national nature of contemporary and classic cinema, while also allowing for the opportunity for some practical work to be undertaken.

This course leads to the WJEC AS Level Certificate. It incorporates the skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing which will be developed through the study of contemporary French society. AS represents the first stage of the A Level.

Building on GCSE Geography, this full-time course gives students an AS level qualification after one year or an A level qualification (A2) after two years. It incorporates skills in essay writing, data analysis, map interpretation, information technology, fieldwork and personal research. We have two specialist teachers to deliver the two parts of the specification (Human and Physical Geography).
